Have you been in to the Museum to see our redesigned exhibit, Transcend: Religious and Royal Art of Asia?
On Saturday, Nov. 17, 2013 the Museum of World Treasures opened its newest exhibit, Transcend, to the public. In the past few weeks the finishing touches, such as new carpet and a redesigned floor, have been put in place.
The Transcend exhibit discusses the transmission of Hinduism and Buddhism across the Asian continent and the iconography used in religious sculpture. This exhibit also discusses art and artifacts from a few Asian royal dynasties, such as the Majapahit kingdom of Indonesia.
Let us tell you, these Buddhas are not easy to lift! Made of marble, they are actually extremely heavy. In fact, they they still rest on the original support boxes they shipped in when arriving at the Museum because we had no way to safely move them.
The next new exhibit, Economics of Empire: Roman Trade AD 100 - 300, will open to the public on Saturday, March 16. This exhibit explores the trade routes of the Roman Empire (circa 100 - 300 AD) and the merchandise that traveled across Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Make sure to mark your calendars for this opening and spring break activities!
