real document case
The Real Document case is found in the Renaissance exhibit on the second floor. Protected by a velvet curtain, the documents on display are so fragile, they must be hidden from any additional light.
WHY HAVE A REAL DOCUMENT CASE?
In the Museum's exhibits, many documents are on display. However, in all other exhibits, those documents are facsimiles. Facsimiles are incredibly detailed reproductions of the original documents in our Collection.
Did you know paper is one of the most difficult materials to preserve? Even a fresh piece of paper is weak to folds, tears, and stains. As paper ages, it becomes brittle, thin, and faded. Because of this, we rarely put the original documents in display cases. The Real Document case is a special chance to see these documents in their most fragile form.
Every three months, MOWT staff rotates out the documents in the Real Document Case. This keeps them from getting too much light exposure and helps preserve history! You can find a new moment of history on every visit to the Museum of World Treasures!
