real document case
Our Real Document case resides in our Medieval and Renaissance exhibit on the second floor behind some red curtains. Don't blink or you'll miss it! We hide it in a dark corner away from all the light so that the documents on display aren't faded.
Why is the real document case a big deal? aren't all the documents real?
Many of the documents you see on display in the Museum are a part of the Museum's permanent or loaned collection and are, therefore, housed in the building. However, due to the fragility of the items we rarely put the actual documents in display cases. The Real Document Case is a special chance for you to see these documents in the flesh or, shall we say, in the paper.
Every three months, curatorial staff rotate out the documents in the Real Document Case. This keeps them from getting too much light exposure and allows you to see more documents during your visits! Check our events page to see what is currently showing!
