Seeking A'aru: journey to the Ancient Egyptian Afterlife

Grow a deeper understanding of ancient Egyptian funerary practices in our recently renovated exhibit, Seeking A'aru: Journey to the Ancient Egyptian Afterlife. 

 

Visitors will explore the origins of the ancient Egyptian beliefs around death and the afterlife through the myth of Osiris and understand the intentions of some of the most common items placed in tombs and coffins. Celebrate ancient Egyptian artistry with beautifully painted coffins and boards and study these sacred items in the palm of your hand using augmented-reality.

 

Highlights of this exhibit include:

• The inner and outer coffins belonging to an ancient Egyptian Temple Singer, Tarutu
• A large collection of shabtis
• Two 3,000-year-old female mummies
