Medieval history lecture scheduled at MOWT

October 2, 2014

At 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, the Museum of World Treasures will host Dr. Travis Bruce for a lecture titled, "They didn't have birth certificates, but they could heal your skin condition: Constructing dynastic legitimacy in the Middle Ages."

Dr. Bruce is the Assistant Professor of medieval and world history at Wichita State University. Before joining WSU, he most recently worked for the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique in France on a project entitled “Imperial Government and Authority in Medieval Western Islam”.

Visit to learn how Medieval European dynasties carefully constructed the legitimacy that surrounded their reigns. Dr. Bruce will explore how the Capetian dynasty of France combined religious rhetoric, popular cultural practices, and long-term political strategies to cement its claim to the French throne.

This lecture is free with general admission. Educational programs are always free for Museum Members. Students with ID are only $5 (+tax). Please visit our website for more information or call the Museum at 316.263.1311.
