As the Marketing Coordinator here at the Museum of World Treasures, I do many things behind the scenes. However during our events, you'll find me behind the bar serving up wine, beer, and most recently my handcrafted cocktails.  Since Spooky Night, I received several inquiries about my Poisoned Apple Cider wondering how to make this drink at home.  Although the name Poisoned Apple Cider worked great for a Halloween themed event, this cocktail can be served throughout the month of November, due to the crisp apple and cinnamon notes paired with ginger.  So, as for popular demand, here is a step by step how-to for the Poisoned Apple Cider so everyone can try at home.

Prior to working at the Museum, I was a server and bartender for several restaurants including local Wichita restaurant, The Monarch.  That being said, creating cocktails and slinging drinks is second nature.  When I was approached to create a festive cocktail for Spooky Night of Treasures, I was more than happy to take on this challenge.  I knew when I was deciding what to create I wanted to keep the recipe simple so that we could make a big batch for several guests.  Basically, I made the perfect drink for your next holiday party!

Let me break down the recipe into creating a single drink as well as creating a batch.

What you’ll need:

  • Apple Juice (I like to use a spiced apple juice personally, but any apple juice will do!)
  • Vodka (My favorite vodka to use is Titos.  It is affordable and good quality.)
  • Ginger beer (For our event we used nonalcoholic ginger beer but if you really want to go crazy with the alcohol, alcoholic ginger beer can be used as well.)
  • Cinnamon and ground ginger (You don’t need much ground ginger at all!)

Single Drink (12 oz.)

  • 2 oz. vodka
  • 6 oz. apple juice
  • 4 oz. ginger beer
  • 2 dashes of cinnamon
  • 1 dash of ground ginger

Add the apple juice, vodka, cinnamon, and ginger to a shaker and shake until the cinnamon and ginger are mixed in.  Pour over ice and top off with the ginger beer.

Batch Drink (12 oz. pours, will serve 30-50 people, you can half this if you need to)

  • 3 bottles of 750 ml vodka
  • 3 gallons of apple juice
  • 1 case of ginger beer (24 cans)
  • Add as much cinnamon and ground ginger as you need!

Mix ingredients together until the cinnamon and ginger are mixed in.
