Please join us for this October's Coffee With the Curator presentation, "Lucretia Mott: A Fiery Friend," presented by Dr. Amanda Lea Miracle!

In antebellum America, women’s reform movements were vast and far-reaching, and the fiery Lucretia Mott found her activities to be part of a much larger effort of reform already underway in the United States.  While many of her specific ideas about reform ran counter to those of other reformers, and even to the ideas of her own denominational affiliation, the fact that she sought to change America made her very much in-step with social trends taking place in American society. For Mott, her conviction in the justness of the antislavery movement, and the belief that she had a responsibility to speak when prompted by the Holy Spirit, led to a very vocal public speaking career in which her messages were heard by thousands.

About the Speaker: Dr. Miracle is a professor of History at Emporia State University.  She teaches classes on American History with specialties in Colonial America and Women’s History.  Her current research interests concentrate on the Friends tradition in Emporia, Kansas.  But, her greatest investments are ages 8, 6, 4 and 2.
