Form & Function, New Exhibit Opening

How much of the globe was covered in ice during the Ice Age? Find out at the Museum’s newest permanent exhibit, opening to the public June 29, 2013!

 

The new exhibit, Form & Function: Making a Living in the Cenozoic educates visitors on various mammal and fish species from the Cenozoic Era, the time that directly followed the extinction of dinosaurs. This exhibit will explore the relationship between the form of an animal’s body and its lifestyle, the similarities and differences between Cenozoic and modern species and common misconceptions about life after the dinosaurs. As this is a vast amount of time to cover within a single exhibit, Form and Function will focus on three specific locations and time periods: 

 

Green River formation – fish dating about 50 to 40 million years ago from around Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah 

 

North American Woodland – mammals dating 34 to 24 million years ago from around Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota

 

Ice Age – mammals dating 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago from North America and Europe 

 

All members are invited to a special exclusive opening of the exhibit on from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 27.
