Coffee With the Curator - We’re Not All Ruffians: A Century of Refinement & Taste in Wichita

Thursday, April 15, 2021 | 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Please join us for this month's Coffee With the Curator presentation, "We're Not All Ruffians: A Century of Refinement & Taste in Wichita," presented by Jami Frazier Tracy!

Founded in 1870, Wichita was dominated by the prairie landscape, but its citizens believed they could establish a Victorian city on the Kansas prairie. A fashionable city from the beginning, by the 20th century Wichita had become a major regional commercial center with dozens of department stores for style seekers, including Innes and Henry’s. Drawing from the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum extensive photographic collection, this program will illustrate Wichita’s fashionable past from the 1870s to the 1970s.

About the Speaker:

Jami Frazier Tracy graduated with honors from Newman University and holds degrees in History and English. She has served on the boards of the Kansas Museums Association and the Mountain-Plains Museums Association where she reviewed grants, presented workshops, served on dozens of committees, and established programs. A life-long Kansan, museums have been Jami’s passion since she visited the Eisenhower Museum in 1977 and discovered the power of objects. An avid museum visitor, Jami has worked in museums since 1987 and she has held the position of Curator of Collections at the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum for over 30 years.
