Using Study Abroad Opportunities to Teach American Students Irish History
In the Spring of 2025 Emporia State University took part in a faculty-led study abroad program hosted by University College Dublin. I was the faculty lead and 15 ESU students spent 10 days with me in the Republic of Ireland. During that tour, the class was given in-depth history lessons that paired with their classes at ESU in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Study abroad opportunities allow American students the opportunities to see and touch the historical locations and events as well as provide a cultural experience. From battlefields to museums, getting American students to Ireland was a fun and educational experience.
