The history of the highland cemetary
A historic overview of Wichita's oldest cemetery, Highland Cemetery, and how it's care is relevant to us today.
Speaker Bio - barb myers
Born in Wichita and raised in the military, Barb Myers main area of interest is local history, specifically about cemetery history and laws and funerary practices. In 2016, while in Graduate School at WSU, she started the Friends of the Wichita Pioneers, a local non-profit organisation which works to preserve Wichita's oldest cemetery, (Highland Cemetery) while educating people about the history of the cemetery and of Wichita. She was the owner of Rowfant Press for several years, a local history publishing company which published other Wichita books such as Hunting and Trading on the Great Plains, 1859-1875 and The Munger House: A History of Wichita's Oldest House. She has also co-written other books, Old Cowtown Museum and Luke the Longhorn-Chisolm's Trial, which are written about Wichita's history.
She is the founder of Wichita History From Our Perspective, a Facebook page with over 17,000 followers; and the Walking With the Wichita Pioneers' Facebook page with 1,200 followers.
