Temporary World War I Exhibit Announced at Museum of World Treasures

New Exhibit Shows Art Created during War and will be Unveiled to Guests at Annual Spring Fundraiser, The MOWT Gala.

Museum of World Treasures is excited to announce the opening of the new exhibit Over There, Over Here: Art as Expression in World War I. The exhibit will be unveiled during the Museum’s annual spring fundraiser, The MOWT Gala, on April 26, 2025. This exhibit will explore how creativity can shape perspectives and how horrendous situations can shape human creativity, through the context of World War I.

The MOWT Gala is an evening of elegance and entertainment. Beginning with a wine-tasting experience, guests will then enjoy a plated dinner from one of Wichita’s most applauded restaurants, George’s French Bistro. Dr. Andrew Orr of Kansas State University will give a keynote address during dinner, followed by the exclusive unveiling of the Museum’s newest exhibit. Guests will have time to speak with the exhibit creators and explore all exhibits throughout the Museum.

About the Exhibit

Over There, Over Here refers to the different perspectives of civilians viewing the soldiers as “over there” and of the tedious and unfulfilling life of soldiers in the trenches as “over here.” Visitors will experience the persistent stream of propaganda created to support the war effort and see beautiful art crafted by soldiers when their creativity spiked in the trenches.

Using a special lens, guests will travel back in time through stereograph images and be surrounded by the music of World War I.

When to see over there, over here

Available for only one year, this temporary exhibit will complement and expand on themes introduced in the Museum’s permanent exhibit, World War I: The First Modern War, located on the second floor.

Over There, Over Here: Art as Expression in World War I will be unveiled for guests at The MOWT Gala on April 26, 2025. After the fundraising event, the exhibit will be included with every general admission ticket to the Museum.

Tickets for The MOWT Gala can be purchased in person at the front desk, over the phone at 316-263-1311, or online. The Museum of World Treasures is located in Wichita’s Old Town district, at 835 E. 1st St. N, Wichita, KS 67202.
