Celebrate July 4 at the Museum of World Treasures

The biggest holiday of the summer is this week, and you can celebrate at the Museum of World Treasures! Teach your kids about the founding of America, and bring them to see one of our newest documents on display: an authorized copy of the Declaration of Independence, printed in 1843. While you’re on the second floor, learn about every President of the United States and see an exact replica of the Resolute desk.
In 1776, colonists were fed up with the taxes on sugar, tea, and other imported goods. These colonists wrote a letter to King George III of England, declaring their independence. Today, this original document is on display in Washington, D.C.
At the time, the document traveled all over the American colonies to spread the news of the war against England. Unfortunately, this kind of travel and treatment extensively damaged the document. Several decades later in 1843, members of Congress had the foresight to issue copies of the Declaration of Independence. Come to the Museum to learn more about this process.
