On Thursday, August 22 the Museum of World Treasures hosted local historian, author, and filmmaker Ken Spurgeon as part of the 2013 Lecture Series.

Spurgeon gave a lecture on his new book, A Kansas Soldier At War: The Civil War Letters of Christian and Elise Dubach Isely. To write the book Spurgeon did a great deal of research on the Isely family and searched for correspondence between the two young people during the Civil War.

Spurgeon’s documentary Bloody Dawn currently plays for visitors in the Museum’s Civil War exhibit, and the filming of his latest movie Road to Valhalla finished over the summer. Spurgeon is the president of Lone Chimney Films.

Did you miss this lecture? The next event in the series will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 12. Historian D.W. Carter, author of newly published book Mayday Over Wichita: The Worst Military Aviation Disaster in Kansas History will be speaking and signing books. Mark your calendar now!
